An all too familiar statement most parents would have uttered or heard is “Is it me or is it them?”. When children exhibit challenging and oppositional behaviours or have emotional outbursts, parents are often lost on what to do and overlook that the behaviour is not the problem, but a symptom. No matter how challenging the behaviour, it offers us insights to what is happening with our child’s biology—which produces the intense emotions and behaviours we observe.
In this seminar, we will explore the concept of mental wellness in children, better understand emotions, how they present differently in different age groups of children, and taking a Brain-Body approach to parenting. We will also engage in role-play activities in small groups (based on our child’s age) to learn some strategies to better engage our children.
